Heparin
Anticoagulant treatment with heparin is usually administered in a hospital
Until a few years ago, all VTE patients were admitted to hospital and received intravenous heparin injection treatment for 4-8 days. Once their clinical profile improved, they switched to antivitamin K drugs, which is taken orally.
Low molecular weight heparins have gradually replaced intravenous heparin and patients have increasingly been treated at home, as they do not need to be hospitalized.
