VTE Risk Factors
The causes of thrombosis are unknown in half of all cases
Although in half of the cases of deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism physicians don’t know the reason for a blood clot or for its travel to the lungs, medical-scientific advances have made it possible to recognize risk factors that can trigger a venous thromboembolic disease.
The main causes predisposing a blood thrombosis inside the veins are as follows:
- surgery or trauma
- prolonged rest (four days or more) in bed, inactivity (sitting a long time in a car or on a plane) or immobilization because of of a splint or a plaster on a limb
- pregnancy, postpartum and hormone therapy (estrogens)
- congenital predisposition to thrombosis (thrombophilia)
- extended trips
CALCULATE THE POSSIBILITY OF A VTE
Several factors may lead to the development of VTE. In this graph, connected in real time with the RIETE Registry, where you can consult the risk of suffering a thrombosis or a pulmonary embolism consistent with the main triggers.
The results obtained in these graphs come from a Database (RIETE) whose rights are duly protected by the Intellectual Property Laws in force.
